Shared Secrets - Overview

With Shared Secrets, individual passwords, information entries or documents can be shared with other people in a controlled and traceable manner – both with users who already have access to the Password Depot server (PD server protocol) and with external recipients via a secure, public link (HTTPS protocol).

This feature is particularly useful for granting teams or third parties (e.g., service providers, external administrators, or support partners) targeted and time-limited access to specific login credentials without having to assign complete databases or additional user rights.

Instead of sending passwords uncontrolled via email, chat, or screenshot, sharing individual secrets enables structured, audit-friendly, and revocable sharing of sensitive information – in line with internal security policies and the principle of least privilege.

Under the overview of Shared Secrets, you can view and manage all shared entries. Status, protocol (PD-SERVER or HTTPS), type of entry, creator, recipient, whether approval is required, the name of the supervisors, and the date of creation (Created) and validity period (Expires) of the secret are displayed.

The Properties button allows you to view detailed information about the secret. You can also mark secrets and delete selected or invalid ones.

HINT: The settings for shared secrets can be found in the server policies in the Shared Secrets tab.
