With Password Depot, you can easily encrypt or decrypt external files regardless of their fomat. The files will be encrypted with the safe algorithm AES 256-Bit.
You can find the corresponding functions Encrypt external files and Decrypt external files on the menu Tools.
With the function Encrypt external files, you can encrypt any file, using a password - so that no unauthorized third party can access your data.
To encrypt your files, proceed as follows:
From the Tools menu, select the option Encrypt external files.
In the dialog box that opens, select the file(s) you wish to encrypt.
Click on Open.
Enter the password which you will use to en-/decrypt the file later into the Enter password field.
Repeat the password in the Confirm password field.
Show/Hide: Shows the password entry in clear text or masked with dots.
Generate: Opens Password Depot´s Password Generator, if necessary.
To remove the original file, check the option Delete original file(s) after encryption. This option is useful if you wish to encrypt a file that has been accessible for several people and to delete the version which could be accessed by all. The original file is then deleted - without any traces - from the hard disk, thanks to secure algorithms.
Select the option Create a self-extracting archive if a user who has not installed Password Depot on his PC should be able to open it.
If you want to save the password for the encrypted file in Password Depot, check the option Store password with Password Depot. To do so, you will need to have your database opened. In the next dialog, confirm that you want to add the password to your file and it will automatically saved as an encrypted file entry.
Click on Encrypt to encrypt the file(s).
With the function Decrypt external files, you can decrypt any encrypted files if you have a valid password.
