The top bar mode is a very useful and unique feature of Password Depot. You can switch to this mode, using the Top Bar button of the toolbar (or press Ctrl + T).
The Top Bar function minimizes Password Depot to a small bar that has the property to stay on top of all other applications, thus enabling constant access to the stored passwords.
The Top Bar can be moved anywhere on the screen by simply pressing the left mouse button and dragging the mouse.
The Top Bar allows you to select a specific password.
Select a group from the Folder field. Once a group is selected, the passwords from the selected group are automatically displayed in the Entry field. If the selected group is empty, no passwords will appear in the Entry field.
Select a password from the Entry field.
On the right-hand side of the top bar, you can use the basic search function to look for passwords/entries ("Search entry"). This basic search considers description, user name, and URL. Possible matches are searched and displayed in real time while you are typing.
Further to the right, in the second half of the top bar, you will find various icons to access various program functions. To customize these icons, right-click on the top bar and then click on Customize. The following icons can be displayed on the top bar:
Search: Enables you to perform an advanced search for specific passwords according to their description, user name, URL, and comments. Furthermore, the search can be refined, e.g. by category, change dates ("Modified after" and "Modified before"), importance, and expiration dates ("Expired after" and "Expired before").
Open Database Manager: Allows you to open another database you have stored.
Save database: Saves the current changes in your database.
New password: Opens the dialog for creating a new password entry. Its sub-menu (via right-click on the small black tip of an arrow) provides access to special options, such as "Credit Card" or "Software License".
Copy global fields to Clipboard: Shows a list of the global custom fields you entered. Click one of them to copy its content to the clipboard.
Selects a favorites item: Here, you can directly choose a password from a list of frequently used passwords.
URL: You can either drag & drop the URL of the according password into a field (for example into your browser address bar) or click the button to copy the URL to the clipboard.
Partial Password: Opens the Partial Password Builder.
Password Generator: Helps you to generate a random password.
Protected Sign-On: If you only work with the Client, then the Protected Sign-On function will be rather unimportant for you. This function is only relevant and makes sense in connection with Password Depot Server. Here, the system administrator can define and limit access to passwords for a specific user. If the administrator, for instance, does not want to assign general viewing rights to a temporary employee, that employee can deposit the corresponding URL without user information in Password Depot and log in exclusively through the "Protected Sign-On" button. During this process, they will get logged on/registered automatically by Password Depot - without seeing any access information used for this purpose.
Modify password: Allows you to modify the currently selected password in the corresponding dialog.
User name: Copies the user name of the password to the clipboard. You can also drag & drop (SHIFT+Click) the user name to a field on a website.
Password: Copies the password to the clipboard. You can also drag & drop (SHIFT+Click) the password to a field on a website.
Copy custom fields to Clipboard: Click on a custom field from the list to copy its content to the clipboard. Alternatively, you can use SHIFT+Click to emulate drag & drop.
TAN: Copies the TAN to the clipboard. Alternatively, you can use SHIFT+Click to emulate drag & drop.
Inserts data to an input box: Click onto this option and then into the first entry field in the target window. You will then be asked if you would like to fill in the user name or the password. Your choice will then be filled in automatically into the selected field.
Suggest password for URL: By clicking this function, you enter the Suggest password mode. Click on the address line of the browser to display possible passwords.
Open URL: Opens the URL address of the password in your standard browser. With the little arrow button, you can choose to open it within a different browser that is also installed on your device.
Auto-complete form (F6): Automatically completes fields on a website, e.g. with user name and password. If you click this function, you will enter the Auto-complete mode. If you want to exit the auto-complete mode, click on Cancel in the auto-complete mode window situated at the top right of the screen. Alternatively, press Esc.
Restore (Ctrl+T): Restores Password Depot to the normal main window.
Lock Password Depot 12 (Ctrl+L): Has the same function as in the main window of Password Depot. Locks the database, so that it can only be re-opened by re-entering the master password.
Minimize: Minimizes Password Depot.
Exit: Quits the program.
