Technically, a browser extension cannot reliably detect whether you are already logged in to a website – this applies to all add-ons in general and is not a limitation of Password Depot. As a result, the add-on may fill in further form fields after you have logged in, or become active on pages where you do not want it to. The following settings let you control precisely where and how fields are filled in.
Narrow down the login URL. Open the entry via Edit → Properties (Ctrl + M) and switch to the URLs tab. In the list Associate the entry with following URLs and Templates, replace broad masks (e.g.
*company*) with the exact URL of the login page. The add-on will then only fill in fields where the login actually takes place – no longer on every page of the domain.Ignore a website. If the add-on should skip a site entirely, click the add-on symbol in the browser, open Settings, and select Ignore this site (hostname-based as of version 19). Alternatively, maintain the list of ignored websites in the database under Database → Properties (Ctrl + I) → Content → Edit URLs (Please note that the database properties cannot be modified for server databases.). Ignored sites can still be filled in manually using the lightning symbol.
Disable automatic filling per entry. In the entry properties, on the Additional tab, uncheck Use entry with browser add-ons if a specific entry should not be used by the add-on.
Fill in on click only. Disable the option Auto-fill single entry in the add-on settings. The add-on will then only enter credentials once you select the entry via the add-on symbol. If several entries are stored for a URL, the add-on does not fill in automatically anyway but waits for your selection.
Check versions. Incorrect filling behavior can also be caused by mismatched versions. Under add-on symbol → About Password Depot Extension you can see the version of the add-on and the client; as of version 19, both must belong to the same generation (see Related topics).
Correct the field mapping. If the add-on fills in the wrong fields on the login page, open the Additional tab in the entry properties, click Update web form data, and drag the credentials into the correct fields using drag & drop.
Turn off add-on filling completely. Under Edit → Options (F10) → Browsers, uncheck Auto-fill web forms using add-ons. You then fill in logins deliberately via Auto-Complete (lightning symbol, F6) – the function is available in the client and in the top bar and works independently of the add-on.
