Android app: Saving to OneDrive fails – option "Use a different save method"

You can open and read a database stored in OneDrive with the Password Depot app for Android, but when you save changes, an error message appears – and the changes never arrive in OneDrive? This issue only affects the Android app. The Windows client is not affected: on the PC, the same database can be saved to OneDrive normally.

Solution: Enable the alternative save method

  1. In the Android app, open the Options.

  2. Go to the Storage section and select OneDrive there.

  3. Enable the option "Use a different save method".

  4. Open your database again and save a small change as a test.

The app then uses an alternative way to upload the database to OneDrive.

Note: The alternative save method only works with databases smaller than 250 MB. Typical password databases are far below this limit; it only becomes relevant with very many or very large file attachments in the database.

If saving still fails

  • First check whether the app is up to date: with cloud issues, an app update via the Google Play Store is always the first measure, because the providers change their interfaces regularly (see "Related topics").

  • Make sure the database is located in the default folder that Password Depot itself creates in OneDrive (\Files\Documents\Password Depot). In a different directory, the app cannot process the file, or only to a limited extent.
