AutoFill and passkeys in the iOS app: What is currently supported?

Many users want to have credentials from Password Depot filled in directly in Safari or in other apps on iOS – just as they know it from the browser add-on on Windows. This article describes the current state of the iOS app: what works today, what is in preparation, and which workflow has proven itself until then.

Automatic filling: current state

  • In the app's integrated browser: Automatic filling is currently available within the iOS app. Open the desired website in the app's integrated browser to have the username and password of the matching entry filled in.

  • Outside the app (Safari, other browsers, third-party apps): An integration into the system-wide iOS AutoFill – that is, a Password Depot entry in the iOS settings under AutoFill & Passkeys – is in preparation but not yet available. Safari and other apps therefore currently cannot access Password Depot directly via the iOS AutoFill bar.

Passkeys

Currently, you store and use passkeys only in the Windows client of Password Depot, for example via the browser add-on or the internal browser. Using passkeys in the mobile apps is planned; there is no date for this yet.

Recommended workflow on iOS

  1. For web logins, use the integrated browser of the iOS app whenever possible – only there can the app fill in your credentials directly.

  2. For Safari or other apps: open the entry in Password Depot, copy the username and password, and paste both into the target app.

Note: There is no fixed date yet for the iOS system integration and for passkey support on mobile devices. Watch the app's release notes in the App Store to learn when these features become available.
