Web Client

Configuring the port and HTTPS for the web client

The web client connects to the REST service of Password Depot Enterprise Server, by default on port 8714. This port applies exclusively to the web client and the REST API – the native applications (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS clients) use server port 25019 (TCP+UDP).

Changing the port (as of version 19)

As of version 19, you change the REST port directly in the Server Manager:

  1. Open Manage → Server settings.

  2. Switch to the General tab and go to the REST Server section.

  3. Adjust the Port number field and confirm with OK.

  4. Open the new port in the server's firewall (and remove the old rule).

  5. Users specify the new port when signing in to the web client. In a self-hosted Web Client 2.0, you can pre-fill it via the defaultPort field in config.json.

Up to version 18, the port was changed via the settings file pdserver.ini: with the server service stopped, adjust the value PortREST=8714, save the file, and restart the service.

HTTPS and certificate

The REST service accepts HTTPS only; unencrypted HTTP connections are not supported. A valid SSL certificate has been mandatory since version 18:

  • Certificate from a trusted certificate authority (recommended): Clients connect without a certificate warning; the common name or subject alternative name must match the server's domain name or IP address.

  • Self-signed certificate: can be created with the Create Certificate Wizard in the Server Manager; the client devices must then explicitly trust the certificate.

The Web Client 2.0 always connects to the API via https://; downgrading to HTTP is not possible.

Function test: Open https://<YOUR_SERVER>:8714/v2.0/databases without signing in. A JSON response with error code 401 confirms that the REST service is running and reachable.

Note: The former Origin URL field in the REST Server section was removed with version 19.1.0. Since then, the server answers cross-origin requests from the web client automatically; a manual entry is no longer necessary.
