Password Depot can generate time-based one-time codes (TOTP) for your entries – just like an authenticator app. In addition to your username and password, the browser add-on can also automatically fill in the TOTP code. You also have the following three options available:
Prerequisite: store the TOTP key in the entry
Open the entry via Edit → Properties (Ctrl + M) and, on the Additional tab under 2FA Secret, store the secret key (secret) that the website shows you when you set up two-factor authentication. Password Depot uses it to continuously generate the current TOTP code; in the details section of the entry you can see the code along with its remaining validity in seconds. As of version 19, you can additionally use TOTP Generation Settings to adjust the number of digits (4–16), the period (10–300 seconds), and the algorithm (SHA1, SHA256, SHA512) to the requirements of the respective service.
Method 1: TOTP hotkey (as of version 18)
Click into the code field on the website and press Ctrl + Alt + O (Find and insert TOTP). Password Depot finds the matching entry based on the active website and inserts the current code directly. With Ctrl + Shift + Alt + O (Insert selected TOTP) you instead use the entry currently selected in Password Depot. You can customize the key combinations under Edit → Options (F10) → Hotkeys.
Method 2: extend the entry's auto-complete sequence
Open the entry's properties and switch to the Additional tab.
Under Auto-complete sequence, click Compose.
Add the TOTP element to the sequence – it inserts the current TOTP code into the target field. If the login page asks for the code only after the password, combine, for example, USER → TAB → PASS → ENTER → delay → TOTP → ENTER (add a delay via Additional).
Then fill in the page using the Auto-Complete function (lightning symbol) – available in the client and in the top bar. It works through the stored sequence field by field.
Method 3: copy and paste the TOTP code
You can always transfer the current code manually: in the details section of the entry, via the TOTP button in the top bar (copies the code to the clipboard), or in the browser add-on under Search entries, where you can copy the TOTP code in addition to username and password. Then paste the code into the website's field with Ctrl + V.
Note: TOTP codes are time-based and expire after a short period. If your computer's system time deviates, websites will reject even correctly generated codes – in that case, check Windows' automatic time synchronization.
