Web Client

How do I get the Web Client 2.0 and what are the requirements?

The Web Client 2.0 is the browser-based interface for Password Depot Enterprise Server: your users access the shared databases in their browser, without installing anything on their devices. It is aimed at business customers running their own Enterprise Server and replaces the Web Client 1.0 (Legacy).

How to get the Web Client 2.0

  1. Public GitHub repository: The complete source code is freely available at https://github.com/acebit-gmbh/web_client_2 (MIT license). Unlike with the Web Client 1.0, no invitation and no prior approval of your GitHub account is required anymore.

  2. Online demo: At https://web.password-depot.de you can try the web client directly. You sign in to your own Enterprise Server there; all data is exchanged directly between the browser and your server.

  3. No separate purchase: The web client is included in the Enterprise Server package and does not require an additional license.

Requirements (checklist)

  1. Enterprise Server version 19.1.0 or later – the Web Client 2.0 communicates exclusively via the REST API v2.0, which is available as of this server version.

  2. Web client access enabled: In the Server Manager, open Manage → Server settings → Connections → Supported clients and enable the Web Client option. The REST service then starts automatically on port 8714.

  3. Firewall rule: Port 8714 (or your custom REST port) must be open in the server's firewall and reachable from the client devices.

  4. Valid SSL certificate on the Enterprise Server (mandatory since version 18) – the REST service accepts HTTPS only.

  5. For self-hosting (on-premises): a web server for static files; to create the build, Node.js version 20 or later and npm version 10 or later.

Note: The Web Client 1.0 (Legacy) is no longer being developed; until the end of support on December 31, 2026, only critical security fixes will be released. Plan your migration to the Web Client 2.0 – it requires Enterprise Server 19.1.0 or later.
