With the import wizard under Tools → Import, you transfer passwords from other programs into Password Depot. More than 20 preconfigured import formats are available (including KeePass, LastPass, 1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane, Keeper, RoboForm, MS Edge Password Manager) as well as generic formats: XML, CSV, TXT, JSON, and all Password Depot formats (.pswe, .pswd, older .psw* files, and backup files .bckd).
How to proceed
Export your data in your previous program – usually as a CSV or XML file.
Open the target database in Password Depot. Recommendation: import into a new, empty database with a strong master password first.
Click Tools → Import and select Import format, Source file (via Browse...), and Target folder; enable Skip duplicates if needed.
Click Next. For generic CSV imports, a column-mapping step follows (see below). Complete the import with Finish.
CSV import: the most important rules
UTF-8: Save the CSV file with UTF-8 encoding; otherwise umlauts and special characters are imported incorrectly.
Column headers: Enable First line contains field names if the first row contains headers. Set the Delimiter (default
;; many third-party exports use,) and the Text qualifier (") to match the file.Check the mapping: The wizard maps recognized headers automatically (e.g. Title, Username, Password, URL). With third-party exports whose headers deviate from these, the automatic mapping often does not kick in – the import then appears to have failed. In that case, assign the columns manually in the PD Attribute/Field column.
Folder structure: Map the column containing the folder path to the target field Entry Path – this preserves the folder structure of the source file.
Importing from KeePass
The easiest way is via XML: in KeePass, export your data to the XML format and select the import format KeePass Password Safe XML Format in the import wizard. Alternatively, the CSV export works with manual mapping: delimiter comma; Account → Description, Login Name → User Name, Password → Password, Web Site → URL, Comments → Comments.
Importing from your browser
Most browsers export saved credentials as a CSV file (e.g. Firefox). Import it via the CSV Files (*.csv) format and map the columns manually. For Microsoft Edge, the preconfigured MS Edge Password Manager format is available.
Warning: Export files (CSV/XML/JSON) contain your passwords in unencrypted form. Delete them from the disk immediately after a successful import – including from the recycle bin.
