You can use any database you created with Password Depot on your PC on your Android device as well – and transfer data from the device back to your PC. There are two ways to do this: the cloud method (recommended) and manual transfer into the app's protected storage. The mobile apps only work with the database formats .pswe and .pswd; we recommend .pswe. Transferring to iPhone and iPad is covered in a separate article (see "Related topics").
Method 1 (recommended): Via a cloud service
If your database is stored in a cloud service (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, HiDrive, or WebDAV), your PC and your Android device access the same file; changes are written directly to the cloud – no copying back and forth.
On your PC, open the Database Manager, select the cloud service, click Sign in, and allow Password Depot to access the service.
Create or save your database directly in the cloud service. Password Depot automatically creates the correct folder – do not create or change this path manually (Dropbox:
\Apps\Password Depot\, Google Drive:\Password Depot\, OneDrive:\Files\Documents\Password Depot, Box:\Password Depot\).Install the free Password Depot app from the Google Play Store. In the app's Database Manager, select the cloud service and connect with the same account – your database appears in the list.
Most common pitfall: In the cloud service, the app only sees its own permission folder. If the database is stored in a different directory, it is not displayed – in that case, move the file to the default folder using your browser.
Method 2: Without the cloud – the app's protected storage
The app keeps local databases exclusively in its protected storage. Direct access to the device's file system ("Shared Folders" as a storage location) has no longer been possible since app version 15.1.0 due to Android policies.
From the PC to the device:
Copy the .pswe file (default folder on the PC:
Documents\Password Depot) to any folder on the device, for example via USB cable. In the app, select Shared Folders → Import database/key file and choose the copied file. It is imported into the protected storage, where you can open it.
From the device to the PC:
Open the database in the protected storage and select Export. The data is written to an XML file in a folder of your choice; copy this file to the PC via USB.
On the PC, create a new database and import the XML file via Tools → Import (format Password Depot XML Format (*.xml)).
Warning: The exported XML file contains your data unencrypted. Delete it after the import, both on the device and on the PC. Also note: if you uninstall the app, all databases in the protected storage are deleted irrevocably.
Note (version 19): Databases created on the PC with the new Argon2id/AES-GCM methods cannot currently be opened by the mobile apps. For shared databases, select the settings PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA1 and AES-CBC when creating the database or when changing the master password, until the app updates are available.
