If you have purchased a new main version, you can migrate the Enterprise Server to version 19 in a few minutes. Databases, users, and settings are carried over. The order matters: migrate the server first, then the Windows clients – they only work together if both run the same main version. The clients for macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS may differ: there, you select the server's main version in the login dialog, and the port is adjusted automatically.
Before the migration
Have the new license keys ready: License keys are issued per main version. With active software maintenance, request the new delivery for version 19 informally by email (see "Related topics").
Stop all Password Depot services: Version 19 uses the new main port 25019 but the same REST server port (8714) as the previous versions. If the old server instance is still running, the port conflict prevents the
PD_Service_19service from starting.Prepare the firewall: Allow port 25019 (TCP and UDP, inbound and outbound).
Tip: You can set your Password Depot Server to read-only mode by opening the Password Depot Server Manager, navigating to Manage → Server Mirroring, and changing the server role to Mirror. This ensures that users cannot create new entries or make any modifications. The default setting is No mirroring.
Step by step
Stop the service of the previous version (e.g.
PD_Service_18).Download Password Depot Enterprise Server 19 from the download area of our website (https://www.password-depot.de/en/download/download-server.htm) and install it.
Stop the
PD_Service_19service.From the program directory of the previous version
C:\Program Files\AceBIT\Password Depot Server <Version>, copy the\Datafolder. It contains the databases (\Data\DB) and the configuration filepwd_srv.cfgwith users, groups, and permissions. In
C:\Program Files\AceBIT\Password Depot Server 19, replace the\Datafolder created during installation with the copied one.Start the
PD_Service_19service.Log on to the Server Manager, check the result, and enter the new license key under Manage → Server License.
If you use Active Directory: under Tools → Import from Active Directory, run an import with the option Recursively scan all containers enabled and update the AD users (the first run takes longer).
After the migration
Certificate: By default, version 19 creates a self-signed certificate (stored under
C:\Program Files\AceBIT\Password Depot Server 19\CA). We recommend installing this root certificate on all client computers (manually or via GPO) – this avoids certificate warnings. Alternatively, add your own certificate under Manage → Server Certificates.Check the server settings: Some settings (including the backup, logging, and keepalive configuration) are not carried over – review Manage → Server settings. If you use SSO, also check the SSPI mode and the SPN under Manage → Server settings → Active Directory.
Update the clients: Install Windows Client 19 and adjust the port number in the login dialog – each main version uses its own default port. The installer option Use settings from the previous version carries over your client settings. If you use the Web Client: Web Client 2.0 requires Enterprise Server 19.1.0 or later.
Note: Version 19 automatically converts server data from version 10.5 onwards. For older source versions, an intermediate migration via version 11 is required – please contact our support team.
