How to migrate your Password Depot Enterprise Server to a new Windows Server/computer

This is a guide on how to migrate your Password Depot Enterprise Server 19 to another Windows Server/computer.

The computer you are migrating to must meet the following requirements:

  • The Server Manager must be installed and run as a Windows service.

  • The Log On account of the service PD_Service_19 (by default the Local System account) needs full read and write access to the program directory of the Server Manager.

  • Firewall rules allowing incoming and outgoing TCP/UDP connections over Port 25019 on both sides/computers.

  • Applies only when auto AD sync is enabled: The Log On account of the service PD_Service_19 (by default the Local System account) must be able to read the memberships of the previously imported users and groups. Previously imported groups may otherwise lose their members.

How to migrate to a new computer

You will find detailed migration instructions in the file migration.txt in the Enterprise Server's program directory. Follow the steps described there carefully. They are summarized below.

Step 1: Make sure you have the necessary recovery keys available.

Step 2: Install the Password Depot Enterprise Server on the new machine.

Step 3: Stop the service PD_Service_19 on both computers.

Step 4: Copy the following folders and files from the initial program directory of the Server Manager (computer A) to the program directory of the new Server Manager (computer B).

\Audit

\Backups

\CA

\Cert

\Data

\Keys

\Logs

pdserver.ini

pdserver.sec

Step 5: Enter the recovery keys on Computer B.

Step 6: Now start the PD_Server_19 service on the new Windows computer and finally the Server Manager.
