No, Password Depot is not a subscription. You purchase the license for the Windows client once; it is valid for an unlimited time, and there are no annual follow-up costs. This article summarizes what applies to the one-time purchase, to upgrades, and to private use on multiple devices.
1. One-time purchase per major version – no subscription
A license applies to one major version (for example, version 19) and remains usable for life – even if newer major versions are released later.
Updates within the same major version (for example, 19.0.4 to 19.1.0) are free of charge.
Upgrades to a new major version (for example, from 18 to 19) are always optional. Existing customers usually receive upgrades at discounted conditions; you can find the current conditions on the order page (https://personal.password-depot.de/en/pricing/order.htm).
2. One person, multiple devices
As of version 17, you may install and use your single-user license on any number of your own devices.
The editions for macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS are free of charge and do not require a license key. You can use them on any number of devices in addition to your Windows version.
To synchronize your database between devices, use a cloud service, for example (see the related article).
3. Several people in one household – shared databases
Every person who works with the Windows version needs their own license.
Password Depot provides shared databases (shared passwords for family or household) via the Enterprise Server: without a server license, the server can be used free of charge with up to 3 users (the super administrator account is not counted).
Note: The accessing Windows clients require their own client licenses even with the free server variant; the clients for macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS are free of charge. Commercial details in this article reflect current support practice – the information on the order page is binding.
