Known limitations of the Linux client and how to give feedback

The Linux client is the youngest desktop client of Password Depot. It deliberately started with a lean feature set and is being expanded continuously – feedback from our customers flows directly into its further development. This article describes what to expect at the moment and how to report bugs or suggest features.

What to expect at the moment

  • No 1:1 feature set compared to the Windows client: Individual features you know from the Windows client may still be missing on Linux. In very early versions, this affected the search function and the ability to delete entries, for example; gaps of this kind are being closed step by step.

  • Feature set grows with updates: If you miss a feature, first check whether you are using the current client version – the feature set can change from version to version.

  • Installation: In our support experience, installation problems are rare; use is reported in particular on Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Debian.

  • Compatibility: The .pswe database format and the connection to the Enterprise Server (including AD login via Windows Domain Credentials as of client 19.0.2) are supported – see the related articles for details.

Getting started: quick start guide

A compact quick start guide (PDF) for the Linux client is available: quickstart-guide-password-depot-linux.pdf

How to give feedback (report bugs, suggest features)

  1. Update the client: Install the current version and check whether the problem or the missing feature still persists.

  2. Note the key details: the distribution you use including its version (e.g. Ubuntu 24.04), the version of the Linux client, and – if you use a server – the version of the Enterprise Server; for bugs, also the steps required to reproduce the behavior.

  3. Submit your request: Send your report via our support portal (service.portal.password-depot.de). Feature requests are expressly welcome – they help us prioritize the further development of the Linux client. We cannot make specific commitments regarding individual features or dates.

Note: If you use the Enterprise Server, the web interface is available to you in addition. It works regardless of the device and operating system and can bridge a feature that is still missing in the Linux client.
