Licensing

How does the Password Depot licensing model work?

Password Depot is sold as a purchase license – not a subscription. Once purchased, a license is yours for an unlimited time, and upgrading to a new main version is always optional. There are two licensing models: the single-user license for the Windows client, and the Enterprise Server with software maintenance.

Single-user license (Windows client)

  • You purchase the license per main version (e.g. version 19). All updates within that main version (e.g. from 19.0.4 to 19.2.1) are included – your unlock code is valid for the entire main version.

  • To move to a new main version, you purchase a discounted upgrade and receive a new unlock code.

  • Licenses are personal (named license): one user may use them on any number of computers and operating systems.

Enterprise Server: license plus software maintenance

  • The server license determines the number of users you can create on the server; since version 12, it is no longer the number of simultaneous connections that counts. The server is free of charge for up to three users (in this case, however, the clients must be licensed/purchased separately); above that, licenses are offered in tiers (from five users up to unlimited).

  • The package includes all clients for all supported operating systems as well as the Web Client.

  • Software maintenance (30% of the net total order value per year, for a term of one to three years) entitles you to updates and upgrades. Important: on the Enterprise Server, even patch updates within the same main version require active maintenance – unlike the single-user license.

  • Without valid maintenance, you keep using your existing version for an unlimited time. You can renew the maintenance retroactively later or purchase an upgrade.

  • AceBIT publishes updates for the current main version; the previous version only receives critical, security-related fixes.

Free clients

The editions for macOS, Linux, Android and iOS are free of charge and do not require a license key. Only the Windows client requires a license – either as a single-user license or via the user count of the server license.

Version rule: client and Enterprise Server

The Enterprise Server and the Windows clients only work together on the same main version; therefore, always update both at the same time. The clients for macOS, Linux, iOS and Android can sometimes also connect to servers of older main versions – to do so, select the corresponding main version in the login dialog window.
