After installing Password Depot 19 for Windows, you can test it as a full version for 30 days. Once the trial period has expired, you have two options: purchase an unlock code (license key) and continue using the program as a full version – or keep using it permanently free of charge in freeware mode with a reduced feature set. The program then shows "The program is running in unlicensed mode now." in the status bar.
These limitations apply in freeware mode
Only one database: You can only use one single local database with a fixed name and storage location. Creating additional databases – including on the Enterprise Server, on USB devices, or in the cloud – is not possible.
A maximum of 20 passwords: The database can contain no more than 20 entries. If you exceed this number, Password Depot displays a notification dialog; you can then no longer add new entries or edit existing ones.
No technical support: Support by e-mail is available to customers with a valid license.
No Update Manager: Automatic updates via the integrated Update Manager are part of the full version.
The apps for macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS are not affected by this and are generally free of charge.
Can I use freeware mode in a company?
Yes. Companies may also use the freeware mode of the Windows client free of charge – the same limitations as above apply. In addition, the Enterprise Server runs free of charge with up to 3 users without a server license (the super administrator account is not counted).
Note: The Windows clients accessing the free server variant must be licensed. For a non-binding evaluation, you can use the 30-day client trial period and the 3-user server.
Exiting freeware mode
Open Help → Unlock.
Enter your unlock code (license key). This lifts all limitations of freeware mode.
