Browser Add-ons

What can I do if the add-on does not fill in a login page at all?

If the browser add-on does not enter any credentials on a login page, the cause can usually be narrowed down with a few checks. Work through the following steps in order – from the basic requirements through versions and ignored websites to field detection.

  1. Check the basic requirements. Password Depot must be running, and your database must be open and not locked; an open dialog window (e.g. Options) also blocks the add-on. The add-on must be installed and enabled in your browser (available for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox; installation via Help → Add-ons; Firefox: if needed, also allow the add-on to run in private windows). Under Edit → Options (F10) → Browsers, the option Auto-fill web forms using add-ons must be enabled. Please note: the add-ons require a local installation – they are not available with the USB installation. When using the Enterprise Server, your administrator's policies must allow filling via the add-ons.

  2. Check versions. Click the add-on symbol in your browser → About Password Depot Extension: there you can see the version of the add-on and the client. The add-on updates automatically via the browser store; as of version 19, a client version 19.0.4 or later is required – otherwise the add-on status shows a version mismatch (see Related topics).

  3. Check ignored websites. In the add-on settings, check whether the site was excluded via Ignore this site, and additionally check the list under Database → Properties (Ctrl + I) → Content → Edit URLs. Note: For server databases, the ignore list is stored locally per user in the file pwdepot.appdata under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\AceBIT\Password Depot 19; to reset it, close Password Depot and rename this file.

  4. Check the entry. The most common single cause: no URL is assigned to the entry. Enter the URL on the URLs tab in the Default URL/File field – in canonical form with https:// or http://. If the login address varies, add URL masks (e.g. *company.com*) to the list Associate the entry with following URLs and Templates. On the Additional tab, Use entry with browser add-ons must be enabled. If several entries are stored for a URL, the add-on does not fill in automatically – select the desired entry via the add-on symbol.

  5. Correct the field detection. If the add-on does not recognize the login fields, open Additional → Update web form data in the entry properties and drag the credentials into the correct fields using drag & drop. As an alternative, Auto-Complete (lightning symbol, F6) also works on pages that the add-on cannot handle.

  6. Report the page to support. Some web forms deliberately suppress automatic filling or are technically inaccessible. If the problem persists despite steps 1–5, send us the URL in question (without your credentials) at support@password-depot.de so that we can check the field detection and, if necessary, extend the add-on.
