Web Client

What features does the Web Client 2.0 offer compared to the desktop client?

The Web Client 2.0 gives you access to the databases on your Password Depot Enterprise Server directly in the browser – without installing anything on the device. It is included in the Enterprise Server package; a separate license purchase is not required. The browser merely loads the static web client files from the hosting web server (or from the online demo) and then connects directly to your Enterprise Server via HTTPS (REST API v2.0, default port 8714) – no sensitive data passes through the hosting web server itself.

What the Web Client 2.0 offers

  • Navigation and editing: folder tree, sortable entry list, details view; create, edit, move, and delete entries and folders

  • 12 entry types: Password, Credit Card, Software License, Identity, Information, Banking, Document, Remote Desktop (RDP), PuTTY / SSH, TeamViewer, Custom, Passkey

  • Documents: upload and download file attachments (up to 64 MB)

  • Search: full-text search across entries (at least 3 characters)

  • Password generator

  • Sign-in: six authentication methods including Windows SSO, passkeys, and OIDC/Entra ID, plus two-factor authentication (TOTP) – see the article on authentication methods for details

  • Second password: protected entries and folders are unlocked after an additional prompt

  • Interface: responsive design for desktop, tablet, and smartphone; light/dark theme; English and German (further languages are planned according to the project documentation)

Differences from the desktop client

  • The entry types Encrypted file and Certificate are not available via the REST API and do not appear in search results – edit such entries in the desktop client.

  • No browser add-on/autofill: The Password Depot browser add-on works together with the locally installed desktop client; the web client offers no add-on integration.

  • Session lifetime: Web client sessions end automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity (warning after 8 minutes); every action extends the session.

  • 2FA without "trusted devices": The 6-digit code is required on every sign-in; FIDO2 security keys as a second factor are not supported via the REST API (use TOTP or an email code instead).

  • No offline mode: An active connection to the Enterprise Server is required.

Note: The Web Client 2.0 requires Enterprise Server 19.1.0 or later. The Web Client 1.0 (Legacy) is no longer being developed; until the end of support on December 31, 2026, only critical security fixes will be released.
