Windows Client

Where can I get current and older versions of Password Depot – and how do updates work?

You can obtain all Password Depot installation files directly from our website; installed programs are kept up to date with the integrated Update Manager. As a general rule, we recommend working with the latest version – many known issues are already fixed in newer versions.

Downloading the current version

You will find the latest version of the Windows client on the download page of our website (Download Password Depot for Windows, macOS & More Free). You can install the downloaded setup file directly "over" an existing installation – this has the same effect as an update via the Update Manager; your databases are preserved.

Downloading older versions

All previous versions are available on the previous versions page of our website (Download Previous Versions of Password Depot). For each version line, the last published release is provided there. Important: Always download the main version your unlock code belongs to – unlock codes are valid for one main version each; with a different main version, the code is rejected as "invalid" (see Related topics). You can check your installed version under Help → About Password Depot.

Updates via the Update Manager

  1. Click Help → Search for updates to open the Update Manager.

  2. The program connects to the AceBIT server and reports whether an update is available.

  3. Use Download and then Install to apply the update.

The Update Manager only installs free updates to intermediate releases (e.g. from version 19.0.3 to 19.0.4). It does not deliver upgrades to a new main version (e.g. from version 18 to 19) – for that you need an upgrade or a new delivery, and you download the new version from the download page (see Related topics).

Configuring the automatic update check

Under Edit → Options (F10), tab General, section Update settings, you define the behavior:

  • Automatic updates: choose between Download updates and prompt to install, Notify when updates are available, and Do not check for updates automatically (not recommended).

  • Interval (days): the check interval, configurable up to a maximum of 365 days.

Note: The last version of a version line no longer receives updates – older main versions are no longer being developed. The Update Manager is therefore right not to report a new version there; the final release of each line is available on the previous versions page. For the Enterprise Server, an additional rule applies: server and Windows clients must use the same main version, so always update them in a coordinated way.
